This year has been hard for us all. 2020 has brought on a new set of challenges and setbacks that have affected so many of us. We’ve had to say goodbye to many of the small businesses we loved and remain socially distant from each other. Essential workers are putting their health and the health of their loved ones at risk in order to provide you with the essential services you rely on. Even during these difficult times people’s leases are coming to an end, loved ones require help moving, and relocation services are necessary. Moving is an essential service and with certain precautions that we will outline you can help to protect the health of you, your family, and your moving team.
Clean all surfaces prior to the movers arriving and after their departure.
Research has shown that the virus that causes Covid-19 can live on surfaces between 4-72 hours. In order to protect the health of your movers, it is important to sanitize all surfaces within your house prior to your movers arriving. When cleaning any surfaces the CDC recommends that you:
- Wear reusable or disposable gloves for routine cleaning and disinfection
- Clean surfaces using soap and water, then use disinfectant.
- Clean or launder items according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds.
Following these steps both prior to your mover’s arrival and after they depart will help guarantee a safe and healthy move during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Ensure you have a safety-minded moving experience
Verify with your moving consultant that your moving team will be wearing masks and gloves.
Everyone that will be on-site the day of the move should be properly outfitted with masks and gloves. This includes you, your moving team, and any others that may be present. Your moving team can also wear shoe covers if needed. It is advised that only individuals that need to be on-site for the move stay on-site, usually a homeowner who will sign contracts and instruct what furniture is to be moved. All others should not be on-site during the physical move as to limit the number of people in a confined space.
Stay 6ft apart
One of the best ways you can ensure both your health and the health of your movers is to simply stay socially distant. There should only be a few times that you will have to be within six feet of your movers, when you are signing contracts and when your moving team is collecting payment. For most of the move, after initial instruction, the moving crew should be self-sufficient in preparing, loading, and unloading all of your items. We recommend staying out of the way of the movers as much as possible and answering questions or addressing any issues from at least a six feet distance.
With these tips you can help stop the spread of Covid-19 and ensure the health of safety of those around you.
